What can be done to save the emotional side of a relationship?

Question by Melissa V: What can be done to save the emotional side of a relationship?
Hubby and me have been married for 3 years and though thing were going good it is taking a turn to bad now. Our child takes much of our time, we lost my hubby’s mom recently and work stress is abundant. feels like we are emotionally tearing apart from each other. when it comes to the date of his mother’s death he turns into a cold man and best is too stay out of each others hair.
is there anything that can be done to try and save this relationship before we totally tear apart from each other?

A child, stress at work, and a recent death in the family.

No wonder you guys are having a hard time. What I think the two of you might need is some alone-time (with each other), a weekend during which just the two of you go somewhere quiet, relaxing, fun, and –most importantly– away.

Make it soon, and plan it together at night, just before bedtime; give yourselves something to look forward to, and put aside all that career-related pressure that tries to convince you that you can’t afford to be away from your work for a night or two (you can, commerce won’t grind to a halt if you aren’t at the office), and ignore all that parental guilt that pulls at you, trying to keep you from going because you don’t want to leave your child (he/she will survive a weekend without you–and might actually enjoy some time away from you guys, as well).

    Find a sitter. Make reservations.

    Hurry.
